AEGON Canada Inc. today announced its sponsorship of Catriona LeMay Doan, Canada’s two-time Olympic gold medallist in speed skating.

As AEGON Canada’s sports celebrity spokesperson, Catriona represents all five subsidiaries that combined, are AEGON Canada: AEGON Fund Management Inc., AEGON Dealer Services Canada Inc., AEGON Capital Management Inc., and two well-known brand-name subsidiaries: Transamerica Life Canada and Money Concepts (Canada) Ltd.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with this new relationship,” said George Foegele, chairman, president and CEO for AEGON Canada, in a statement. “We’re very proud to be sponsoring Catriona and supporting her extraordinary speed-skating career. Through her athleticism, she exemplifies the very attributes that AEGON Canada embodies in the financial services industry: innovation, discipline, and expertise.” Foegele added. This is AEGON Canada’s first sponsorship of an amateur athlete.

The sponsorship will enable Doan to focus on her speed skating training and devote her immediate attention to defending her world championship title in January 2003 in Calgary.

AEGON Canada plans to incorporate and leverage the sponsorship with employees, distributors, and customers through product promotions, campaigns and charitable giving activities.

The next AEGON Canada event that Doanwill make a personal appearance at is Transamerica’s “Drive for Life” Golf Tournament at Markham, Ont.’s pAngus Glen Golf and Country Club on August 13. The charity golf tournament will raise over $300,000 for the Ontario March of Dimes’ Conductive Education Program.
