Toronto-based Wealthsimple Financial Inc. has received the Webby Award for Best Financial Services/Banking website.
This is the second consecutive year that the Webbys, which celebrates the best of Internet culture, has awarded Wealthsimple this distinction, beating out the likes of industry stalwarts such as Morgan Stanley and H&R Block Advisors for its title.
“We’re a technology company first, so a super intuitive, human site is crucial,” says Rudy Adler, chief product officer at Wealthsimple, in a statement. “It’s like we’re having a seamless conversation with people. And conversations evolve. That’s why we basically tore up the design even after we won a Webby last year — and built it again. It’s a testament to the creativity of our team that we won again this year, with a completely different website.”
The award comes on the heels of Wealthsimple’s announcement late January that the firm is expanding its reach to the U.S., marking its first move to compete with other robo-advisory firms outside of Canada.
Now in its 21st year, the Webbys cover seven categories: web, online film and video, advertising and media, social media, podcasts and digital audio, mobile websites and apps, and special achievement.
The Webbys give out two awards for each sub-category, the Webby Award, which is decided by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and the Webby People’s Voice Award, voted on by the public.
Wealthsimple will take home its award in New York City on May 15.
