Toronto-based Women in Capital Markets (WCM) has recognized four female directors from the capital markets businesses of three big banks for their commitment to career development as well as their proven ability to take on leadership roles and overcome obstacles in business.

The awards were presented at a ceremony in Toronto on Thursday. The recipients of the 2016 WCM Executive Coaching Award are:

> Elizabeth Daponte, managing director, corporate banking, global mining with the global banking and markets arm of Toronto-based Bank of Nova Scotia.

> Cheryl M. Ferguson, managing director, global fixed-income, currencies and commodities with Toronto-based BMO Capital Markets Corp.

> Joanne O’Hea, director, global equity trading with the capital markets arm of Toronto-based Royal Bank of Canada.

> Priya Radha, director and desk head, fixed-income options, Canada and the U.S., with the global banking and capital markets arm of Toronto-based Bank of Nova Scotia

“In Canadian capital markets, there are substantial gaps in the level of female representation in senior management roles. This award is designed to help high-calibre experienced female professionals develop key skills that will help them move up the ladder,” says Jennifer Reynolds, CEO of Women in Capital Markets, in a statement released on Friday.

“This year’s winners are wonderful examples of talented, experienced professional women who have a proven ability to take on leadership roles and tackle business challenges,” she adds.

The program targets women with a minimum of 10 years of working experience in capital markets and is meant to help them develop their executive skills. Award winners receive free career coaching, which is provided by Felix Global Corp., whose Canadian head office is in Toronto. The program’s corporate sponsor is Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, which is also based in Toronto.
