UnumProvident has introduced an enhanced long term disability income protection insurance product designed to meet the needs of small businesses with 2-9 employees.
The new product includes the Best Doctors service and the Work-Life Employee Assistance Program, as well as online services for plan administration.
“Most small businesses are unable to offer the types of disability income protection benefits that larger companies do,” said Neil Paton, VP of distribution and market development for UnumProvident in Canada. “This offering provides access to coverage and value-added services that may not have otherwise been available.”
Best Doctors provides a combination of information and access to the best medical care. The service allows employees to secure a second opinion through a comprehensive medical evaluation performed by the expert Best Doctors team of physicians.
The Work-Life Employee Assistance Program provides employees with confidential, 24-hour, toll-free access to professional advice and referrals. This assistance can help employees remain productive at work while dealing with concerns like parenting, child or elder care, and legal issues.
“With a smaller staff, the absence of one employee can affect everyone. Retaining and supporting employees through a difficult time is key to maintaining an efficient work environment,” Paton said.
