UBS today announced that Michel Matifat has joined its Canadian Wealth Management division as a client advisor in its Vancouver branch. Matifat was most recently national partner in charge of KPMG’s Private Client Advisory Services practice.

Matifat is a financial and tax advisor with 25 years’ experience in providing financial planning for executives and professionals. He is a chartered accountant as well as a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation. He has his bachelor of commerce from the University of Montreal, and he has resided in Vancouver since 1997.

“Michel brings with him strong leadership skills, a client-centric focus and a seasoned career in financial services,” Grant Rasmussen, head of UBS Wealth Management in Canada, said in a release. “These skills are at the core of the UBS Wealth Management value proposition and Michel is a great addition to our Vancouver office.”

Matifat will use his experience in financial services in conjunction with the world-class investment, tax, and portfolio management expertise provided by UBS. He will also be able to provide to his clients sophisticated services, such as aircraft financing, wine banking and art banking. UBS also develops investment strategies that can involve single stock lending, currency solutions and active capital preservation. Clients with their international interests can also have their dealings managed in as many as 23 currencies.

UBS Bank (Canada) began private banking operations in Canada in 1951 and has offices in Montreal, Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. UBS Canada employs more than 250 people through its three core businesses: Wealth Management, Global Asset Management, and Investment Banking.
