The Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments announced Thursday that three new independent directors have joined its board.

At its annual general meeting, OBSI’s board of directors confirmed the appointment of three new independent directors:
> Louise Martel, a professor in accounting at HEC Montréal;
> Angela Ferrante, a retired executive with the Ontario Energy Board; and
> Ian Lightstone, a director of MJI Global Inc. and founding principal of Thompson Lightstone & Company, a market research firm.

OBSI’s board is comprised of 10 directors, including seven independent directors and three drawn from the industry.

Professor James Savary, a member of OBSI’s board since 1998 and chair of the board’s standards committee from 2005-2008 is stepping down from the board.
