Second-place honours went to Mackenzie Financial. Sun Life placed third, tied with Fidelity Investments.

Sun Life Financial’s retirement planning Web site has been recognized by the Investment Funds Institute of Canada.

IFIC’s Investor Education Award, handed out earlier in December at the Canadian Investment Awards, recognizes industry-produced educational resources that lead investors to a better understanding of mutual funds, financial planning or investing.

Russell Investments won the award for an educational campaign on investing for retirement.

A team of five judges determined that Russell’s campaign best met the award’s criteria of originality, relevance, quality and accessibility of investor education material.

The judges singled out Sun Life’s “My Retirement” Web site for the interaction and information available to users.

The Web Site, designed to meet the needs of Canadian baby boomers, uses clear and simple language and features interactive tools and calculators to help Canadians plan for retirement.

“We are very pleased to be recognized by IFIC for the work we’ve done in developing the My Retirement Web site,” said Kevin Strain, senior vp of individual insurance and investments at Sun Life Financial. “We know from our customers that there is uncertainty surrounding how much money is needed in retirement and the various sources from which that money will be drawn. The information on My Retirement helps dispel common myths and provides insight on issues that are important to baby boomers as they get older.”

“Education along with working with a financial advisor is key to developing a plan that not only focuses on investment solutions but considers life and health insurance,” Strain added.
