Co-operators General Insurance Co. today announced some changes to The Co-operators senior management team as three members move on to retirement. This team oversees all of the companies in The Co-operators group of companies.

Dan Thornton, senior vp and COO, Co-operators Life Insurance Co., will retire effective April 2007. His career has taken him into Coseco as its COO, and into various roles in Co-operators General culminating in senior vp, distribution, and finally into Co-operators Life as COO in 2001.

Kevin Daniel will assume the post of senior vp and COO, Co-operators Life effective April 2007 upon Thornton’s retirement. Daniel recently celebrated his 20th anniversary with The Co-operators. His career has included senior leadership roles in Co-operators General, Co-operators Life, and most recently as senior vp finance and CFO for The Co-operators Group.

Daniel obtained his LOMA level 1 designation in 1986, his BA in 1986, and his CGA designation in 1991.

Peter Parkin, senior vp and COO, The Sovereign General Insurance Co., subsidiary of Co-operators General, will be retiring effective Feb. 28, 2007.

Vivien Fong, senior vp and chief information officer, will be leaving the Co-operators organization when she retires in October.

Fong’s replacement will be Robert Wesseling, effective October 2006. Wesseling obtained a BA with distinction in Math, an MSc. in Applied Stats, his C.I.P., and has spent over nine years in increasingly senior leadership roles within Co-operators General, most recently as vp, personal lines and packaged products.

The changes will result in a vacancy in the role of CFO. Daniel will still sit on the senior management team in his new role and will be in a position to assist and provide counsel to the ultimate successor to the CFO role.

The changes have also created a vacancy in the COO of The Sovereign. The company will undertake a search to fill these roles immediately. The company has had an effective succession plan model in operation for some years from which to draw resources.
