For the third time in a row RBC Financial Group tops the list as the Most Respected Corporation in Canada for 2004 as selected by Canadian CEOs.

In the 10 year history of these surveys only two other companies — Bombardier Inc. and Northern Telecom — have ever surpassed RBC as the most respected company.

“RBC Financial is truly the gold standard at the top of the respect ratings. It is an outstanding recognition afforded this icon in the Canadian business landscape,” said Bill Dillabough, managing partner, markets, KPMG, in a release.

Among other companies on the list with ties to the financial services industry were:

  • Power Corp. of Canada has made a sharp climb since 2003 in overall votes – going from 36th last year to 8th this year;
  • The Bank of Nova Scotia has continued a steady climb since 2001 in overall vote getting – climbing from 24th in 2001, to 5th in 2004; and
  • Manulife Financial Corp. has also continued a steady climb in overall vote getting – going from 41st in 2001, to now 6th in 2004.

The survey conducted by Ipsos-Reid and sponsored by KPMG, asks leading Canadian CEOs to name the corporations they most respect. Corporations were graded on their performance in the following eight categories: Best Long-Term Investment Value, Innovation and Product/Service Development, Human Resources Management, Financial Performance, Corporate Social Responsibility, High Quality Service/Product, Corporate Governance, and Customer Service. Lastly, CEOs were asked to determine overall, which company they most admired when asked to offer their ‘Top of Mind’ Most Respected Corporation for 2004.

The survey involved interviewing 263 of Canada’s leading CEOs between September and November 2004.
