Sun Life, Foresters and Canadian Premier Life received top honours at the LOMA/LIMRA Canada’s Annual Conference held Tuesday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

The awards recognize best practices in learning and development in Canada’s life and health insurance industry.

Accepting for Sun Life Financial in the large company category were Kathy Suave, director, customer relations, and Cathy Fyfe, leader, new business quality and training. Sun Life excelled through its three-session training program, “Excellence in Action.”

Also winning in the large company category was Foresters with its “Build Knowledge for Life” program, which works to embed industry education in the Foresters company culture. Corporate support and peer-assistance were vital elements of the program’s success. Accepting the award on behalf of the company were Nisha Sakar, manager, employee development, and Linda Smith, human resources assistant.

In the small company category, Canadian Premier Life won for its “ADMS Colleague Commitment and the Oz Principle Accountability” program. Lidia Finlayson, human resources manager, Canadian Premier Life, Markham, Ontario accepted the award.

Recognizing the top Canadian students in its two fellowship-level LOMA designation programs, LOMA/LIMRA Canada honoured Michael Hawke, business solutions consultant, Sun Life Financial, Waterloo, Ont., as the top FLMI of 2008, and Majorie Belanger, software analyst, Industrial Alliance, Quebec City, as top FFSI of 2008.
