Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Duane Green has been appointed as CEO, Canada and head of Americas distribution with Aviva Investors. He will report to Jill Barber, chief distribution officer, and will be responsible for all business development and client relationships across the region. Green brings more than 25 years of experience within the investment management industry to the role. He served as president and CEO of Franklin Templeton Canada for the last seven of his 19 years with the firm.
  • Jonathan Needham has been named president and head of advisor and intermediary solutions Canada with Russell Investments Canada Ltd. Needham has more than two decades of experience in the investment industry, most recently as vice-president and director, lead of ETF distribution with TD Asset Management Inc. He’s also held leadership positions at Vanguard Investments Canada Inc. and Wealthsimple Inc. Needham will serve as a member of Russell Investments’ global operating committee.
  • Nadine Ahn has officially taken on the role of chief financial officer with Canaccord Genuity Group, succeeding Donald MacFayden. Ahn, who has 25 years of banking and capital markets experience, joined the firm as deputy CFO in October. She was previously CFO at Royal Bank of Canada. MacFayden will continue to serve a leadership role in Canaccord’s U.S. broker-dealer subsidiary.
  • Chris Fowler, president and CEO of Canadian Western Bank, has announced he will retire on March 1, following the completion of National Bank of Canada’s acquisition of CWB. Fowler, who joined CWB in 1991 and served as president and CEO since 2013, will continue as an advisor to National Bank president and CEO Laurent Ferreira until April 30. Former CWB chair Sarah Morgan-Silvester has been appointed to National Bank’s board of directors, along with Irfhan Rawji, managing partner at Relay Ventures and at Realize Capital Partners.
  • Robert Armstrong has been named head of multi-asset strategies with ATB Investment Management Inc. He brings more than 25 years of experience, including 14 years with BMO Global Asset Management (BMO GAM), most recently as director, portfolio manager and investment strategist, and 10 years at AGF Management Ltd. as director, investment. Steve Xu has also joined the firm as senior portfolio manager. He previously spent 13 years with BMO GAM, most recently as director and portfolio manager. He is responsible for managing the investment decisions and outcomes of ATBIM’s multi-asset investment solutions.
  • Peter Kahnert is starting Peter Kahnert (PK) & Associates. The former senior vice-president, corporate communications and marketing at Raymond James Ltd. left a year ago after more than 20 years with the firm. Kahnert calls his new practice “a blue chip advisory resource” available to help teams and firms share their message and story.
