A new educational course designed to help reps get licensed for options trading is to be launched at the end of the month.

The Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada says CSI Global Education Inc. will be launching the new derivatives fundamentals and options licensing course on Jan. 30.

The new qualification path, which is being launched at IIROC’s request, is intended to “provide a more direct, focused and efficient proficiency stream for individuals seeking to be licensed with IIROC for options trading,” IIROC says.

The course effectively combines the existing derivatives course and the options licensing course into a one course with a single three-hour exam. CSI will also continue to offer both the old courses as separate stand-alone offerings for individuals who want to take these courses for non-licensing purposes, or those wishing to take a more staged approach to getting licensed in options.

The French-language version of the new course will be launched March 30.
