The Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) has announced its board of directors for 2012-2013. The members were elected at IFIC’s annual meeting in Toronto held earlier this month.
At the board meeting that immediately followed, Glen Gowland (managing director & head, Canadian wealth management–distribution, Scotiabank) was elected chairman.
“This is an exciting time to be assuming the role of chair at IFIC,” Gowland said. “The industry is celebrating 80 years of mutual funds in Canada and the 50th anniversary of IFIC. Canadians have put their faith in our products through 80 years of innovation and investor support. We can take pride in knowing that the investment funds industry is a major success story.”
IFIC represents the breadth of Canada’s retail investment funds industry, its 150 member organizations include fund managers that represent roughly 80% of retail assets under management, along with distributors, back office providers, and professional services. The IFIC board reflects this broad mandate, drawing on CEO and senior executive ranks from its members organizations.
“IFIC’s twin strengths are the quality of our board and our high degree of member involvement,” noted Joanne De Laurentiis, IFIC president and CEO.
“Every one of our submissions, position papers, and reports is produced with the involvement some of the most knowledgeable, experienced people in our industry who sit our member committees. They are then vetted by a senior board committee to ensure that they reflect the viewpoint of a majority of our industry members.”
