ICE Futures Canada has received regulatory approval for new three new futures contracts.
The Winnipeg-based agricultural exchange said Tuesday that the Manitoba Securities Commission has approved new contracts for milling wheat, durum wheat and barley.
ICE reports that the House of Commons passed legislation to end the Canadian Wheat Board’s monopoly for sales and marketing of Canadian wheat and barley as of August 1, 2012. The bill still requires approval by the Senate and Royal Assent to become law.
Following enactment of that legislation, ICE Futures Canada expects to be able to list the new contracts in January 2012, with the first contracts for delivery in October 2012.
