The Financial Planners Standards Council is seeking nominations for the 2009 Donald J. Johnston Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Financial Planning in Canada.
The award recognizes the spirit, imagination, dedication and contribution of individuals whose unique achievements and outstanding service have continued to advance the profession.
The 2009 recipient will be the fourth honoree since its inauguration in 2006.
Past honorees are Donald J. Johnston, founder and now retired president of FPSC, Alistair Rickard, the 2007 recipient and 2004 chair of the board of FPSC, and Jim Rogers, the 2008 recipient, who is a past two-term chair of the Canadian Association of Insurance Financial Advisors.
“We are looking for someone whose unique achievements and outstanding service have continued to advance the profession,” said Ellen Roseman, chair of FPSC’s DJJ committee. “It is important we celebrate the individuals and groups of individuals who have helped raise the profession but also the profile of financial planning and its importance for Canadians.”
Nominees are evaluated by the DJJ committee on criteria including advancement of the status of the profession, advancement of the standards of the profession, reflection/embodiment of the profession, industry visibility and knowledge and impact of contribution.
The committee selects nominees for the consideration of the FPSC board of directors, which will make its final decision on the 2009 recipient at its spring meeting. The winner will be announced in June 2009 at the FPSC’s annual board appreciation reception.
Nominations must be received by Feb. 20.
