The November batch of CFP exam writers had a 45% pass rate, the Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) announced today.

Eight hundred and fifteen (815) individuals wrote the Certified Financial Planner or CFP examination on November 17, 2007, and 45 per cent (365) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 52 per cent passed.

“Congratulations to the successful exam writers who have completed this very important step in attaining CFP certification,” says FPSC vice president, standards and certification, John Wickett. “This was the first examination blueprinted to FPSC’s newly revised professional competency profile for CFP Professionals.”

The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The November examination was held in 51 centres across Canada.

The examination is one component of the CFP certification program that also includes pre-requisite education to qualify to write the CFP examination, a minimum of two years of relevant work experience, ongoing adherence to the CFP code of ethics and fulfillment of annual requirements in continuing education.

The next scheduled sitting of the CFP Examination is on June 14, 2008. Registration closes on May 14, 2008.
