Desjardins Group is making “major changes” to its senior management following an internal review of a privacy breach that affected all of its members.
“Trust between a president and their management committee is essential,” Guy Cormier, president and CEO of Desjardins Group, said in a statement. “In light of the events of the last few months, I’ve decided changes must be made to our senior management team.”
Effective immediately, Réal Bellemare is replacing Denis Berthiaume as senior executive vice president and chief operating officer. Bellemare will also serve as interim executive vice president of information technology, replacing Chadi Habib.
In a release, Desjardins said it had come to “a mutual agreement with both Mr. Berthiaume and Mr. Habib to end their respective working relationships.” The financial group said it would “begin the search for Mr. Habib’s permanent replacement shortly.”
Bellemare most recently served as Desjardins’ executive vice president of finance, treasury and administration and chief financial officer. He is succeeded in that role by Alain Leprohon, who was previously vice president of finance.
In June, Desjardins announced that the personal information of its members had been shared outside of the organization. Desjardins initially reported that the breach affected 2.9 million members, but announced last month that all 4.2 million of its members had been affected.
