The final date to register for exams related to the pursuit of the certified financial planner (CFP) designation is May 3.
An announcement from the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) states that the deadline applies to both the CFP examination and the FPSC Level 1 examination in financial planning, the two exams required for certification as a CFP.
Candidates must have completed a core curriculum program that is approved by the FPSC in order to write the Level 1 examination.
Financial advisors who have obtained the FPSC’s Level 1 certification in financial planning and have completed an FPSC-approved capstone course are eligible to write the CFP examination. The capstone course requires completion of a comprehensive financial plan. Details are available on the FPSC’s website.
Candidates can apply for CFP certification after completing these educational and examination requirements, as well as three years of qualifying financial planning work experience.
The exams will take place in approximately 40 Canadian cities on June 3. Candidates can register through the FPSC’s website.
There are approximately 17,000 CFP professionals and 1,700 FPSC Level 1 certificants across Canada.
