The Toronto-based Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) Thursday launched the Certificate in Personal Banking as an educational foundation for individuals moving from a bank teller to a sales position and other future roles.

“[The certificate] follows you through your career,” says Rui Barreto, a content development specialist with CSI in Toronto, “the skills you build at the bottom are the ones you carry right through your career.”

The certificate is a combination of three courses offered by CSI: the Investment Funds in Canada course (priced at $565), Personal Financial Service Advice ($550) and the Personal Lending and Mortgage course ($550). All course work can be completed online at the participant’s own pace within a 12-month window for each course.

Those who wish to take the proctored exam to receive the official certificate can do so for a cost of $200. Participants who simply want a basic understanding of the material can take an online exam.

The course material for the certificate can also be put towards the Personal Financial Planner (PFP) designation for individuals who want to move into financial planning.

Courses are available for enrollment now, however, individuals will not be able to schedule a proctored exam until the end of July.
