For the second year running, the Barbara Frum Atrium at the CBC Broadcasting Center will be transformed into a hockey-themed Scrabble tournament as the TSX Group Inc. presents Frontier College’s Scrabble Night in Canada Corporate Challenge 2006 this evening.

“We are pleased to support Frontier College and their continued good work in improving literacy across the country,” said Richard Nesbitt, CEO of TSX Group Inc. and member of the Frontier College board of directors. “Frontier College’s Scrabble Night in Canada Corporate Challenge is a great way for Canadian business leaders to lend their support, and it’s a fun night for everyone involved.”

Gerry McCaughey, president and CEO of CIBC will welcome the evening’s participants.

Organizers of this year’s challenge have introduced some variations on the game to keep it lively: players can purchase the expertise of a “Ringer,” including Canadian National Scrabble Champion Joel Wapnick, to increase scoring possibilities, and there will be word lists available for purchase, including those tricky “Q” words.

The event invites representatives from the financial and professional services industry to enter a team of four to play in this hockey-themed event in support of Frontier College, Canada’s leading provider of literacy programs. In keeping with the hockey theme, teams are outfitted in hockey jerseys and the winning team celebrates with the TSX Cup.

Frontier College has been providing literacy training for more than 100 years. It runs community-based literacy programs across Canada and works with more than 200 community partners to incorporate literacy programs into their services.
