CIBC today announced the completion of a major multi-year $90 million investment to upgrade its 3,800 bank machine network across Canada, offering better access for persons with disabilities, enhanced security and new transaction features.

“CIBC is focused on ensuring our bank machines offer our clients the greatest possible convenience and accessibility,” said Sonia Baxendale, senior executive vp, retail markets. “Our investment is making one of Canada’s largest ABM networks even better.”

Baxendale added that every CIBC branch with a bank machine has at least one CIBC “Access for All” ABM to make banking easier for visually impaired clients and persons with restricted mobility.

CIBC Access for All ABMs are installed at wheelchair accessible height and include headphone jacks for audio access; grab bars for persons with mobility impairments; and improved lighting to assist elderly and partially-sighted clients.

Highlights of the investment are:

  • a near doubling of the number of CIBC Access for All ABMs, from 610 in 2004 to 1,129 in 2007;
  • the ability for clients to set up CIBC Express Withdrawal enabling them to complete their withdrawal almost three times faster;
  • a deposit calculator to help with adding up multiple deposits; and
  • enhanced security features to help prevent card skimming.

The completion of this upgrade follows CIBC’s recent renewal of an agreement with 7-Eleven to operate nearly 500 CIBC-branded ABMs in convenience stores across Canada.

“This contract reinforces CIBC’s commitment to offer ABM services wherever and whenever our clients want to use them,” said Baxendale. “This agreement will enhance the broad coverage that CIBC currently has in terms of its bank machines across Canada.”

“At a time of increased competition for retail space, we are pleased to have been able to renew our relationship with 7-Eleven and give our clients access to CIBC ABMs at convenient retail locations,” added Baxendale.

CIBC bank machines are available broadly across Canada. In addition to more than 1,000 branches and 7-Eleven convenience stores, CIBC clients can access CIBC ABMs at Mac’s convenience stores, Sunoco gas stations and numerous other retail outlets. CIBC clients can also use any President’s Choice Financial bank machine at Loblaw stores across Canada, including Real Canadian Superstores, Fortinos and No Frills, without incurring additional fees.
