Seven universities and colleges across Ontario will receive $2 million from the Certified General Accountants of Ontario to help students, faculty, staff and working professionals do more with their financial careers.
The funding will help schools in Ontario attract talented professors and researchers, support and promote research in finance and accounting, and award students with scholarships into the CGA Ontario Program of Professional Studies.
“We’re very pleased to have the opportunity to establish and expand these important funding partnerships with Ontario’s leading universities and colleges,” says Doug Brooks, CEO, CGA Ontario. “The positive impacts this additional funding will create for students, academics and financial professionals are tremendous.”
CGA Ontario’s funding will also result in the development of an accounting study and support centre for students, an innovative “Interview Room” to prepare job candidates to perform under pressure, a software gaming simulation to help students learn accounting in a fun and interactive environment, a Research Excellence Fund and CGA Professorship in Accounting, and networking and professional development initiatives for CGAs.
The recipients of CGA Ontario’s most recent funding are Brock University, Conestoga College, Ryerson University, Seneca College, Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa, University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Western University. CGA Ontario made a significant contribution last year to the Schulich School of Business to establish a chair in international entrepreneurship.
