CFA Society Toronto has announced the winners of its annual Undergraduate Finance & Economics Awards.

On Monday, the society recognized six undergraduate students in the third and fourth year of finance and economics programs across Ontario for their academic achievements and leadership in volunteering, internships and extracurricular activities.

“Our Undergraduate Finance & Economics Awards recognize exceptional students who are poised to embark on their professional journeys and help shape the future of finance,” said Fred Pinto, CEO of CFA Society Toronto, in a release.

The first-place prizes went to third-year student Ravneet Sehmbi from Queen’s University and fourth-year student Alyssa Choi from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey Business School.

Sehmbi was recognized for several accomplishments including receiving a full scholarship from Birch Hill Equity Partners Management Inc., interning as a sales and trading analyst at National Bank Financial Inc. and landing an upcoming investment banking internship at Evercore Partners Inc. in New York.

Choi has landed internships at CPP Investments, Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and Blackstone, and has been active in the Western Investment Club (WIC), the release said. She created the Women-in-WIC and Diversity-in-WIC programs.

Jane Jia from Queen’s and Harper Zhang from the University of Waterloo received the second- and third-place prizes in the third-year student awards, respectively.

Joseph Xie from Queen’s received the second-place prize and Ronis Goel from the University of Waterloo received the third-place prize in the fourth-year student awards.

CFA Society Toronto will award the prizes to the winners on Feb. 12.
