The London, New York, and Toronto Stock Exchanges will be opened by CFA Institute members, volunteers, and other industry leaders on June 11 in observance of CFA Day.

In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the investment profession organization, CFA Day was designed to give members and societies of CFA Institute an opportunity to celebrate being part of the investment profession in their local communities.

During the month of June, more than 120 societies worldwide will facilitate CFA Day activities, many of them on or during the week of June 11.

On June 11, 1947, representatives from financial analyst societies in Boston, Chicago, New York, and Philadelphia joined forces to form the National Federation of Financial Analyst Societies (NFFAS) to promote the exchange of ideas, develop a code of ethics, and support the welfare of the societies and their members. NFFAS’ name was later shortened to the Financial Analysts Federation (FAF). In 1990, the FAF merged with the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (ICFA) to form the Association of Investment Management and Research (AIMR), which is now CFA Institute.

Today, CFA Institute has 91,000 members from 134 countries and is recognized worldwide as the administrator of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) examination program.

“Since the inaugural meeting 60 years ago, members of CFA Institute and its predecessor organizations have worked to transform the investment industry from a practice into a profession,” said Jeff Diermeier, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute, in releases.

Guests at the Toronto Stock Exchange include:

  • Blair Carey, associate, Abacus Private Equity; co-chair of the Canadian Advocacy Council;
  • Margaret Franklin, partner, KJ Harrison & Partners; past president of the Toronto CFA Society and member of the CFA Institute Board of Governors;
  • Owen McCreery, Toronto Stock Exchange Board of Directors;
  • Kurt Schacht, managing director, CFA Institute Centre for Financial Market Integrity; and
  • David Yu, president, Yu Partners; past president of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts (now the Toronto CFA Society) and a former member of the CFA Institute Board of Governors.

In addition, member societies around the world have chosen to commemorate CFA Day with events at their local stock exchanges.
