The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) experienced another trading glitch on Thursday, slightly delaying the open of several options classes.
A week after it experienced a software glitch that kept trading delayed for the morning, the CBOE had another technology disruption today. It reports that one of its 25 business clusters, which contains approximately 300 option classes, experienced a delayed open, as a result.
While all of the exchange’s other classes opened as scheduled at 8:30 a.m., the affected classes didn’t open until 8:40 a.m., and complex order trading in all of the classes in the affected cluster was available by 9:04 a.m., the CBOE reports.
“This issue was triggered by a product maintenance function being performed for a symbol change to one of the classes in the cluster. The software maintenance function was recently updated in preparation for the extended trading hours initiative,” it says.
The CBOE notes that it’s in the process of retaining an independent systems consultant to thoroughly evaluate the rollout of its extended trading hours initiative, which caused last weeks trading outage. “We are committed to extended trading hours, and this review will result in a comprehensive evaluation of our rollout procedures and provide guidance going forward,” it says.
