BMO Capital Markets has raised $1.6 million with its annual fundraiser on behalf of charities that help facilitate greater access to education this week.
The investment bank held its 10th annual Equity Through Education trading day on September 24, which sees the firm donate the value of the days’ worth of institutional equity trading commissions earned in the U.S., Canada and in London, UK to charitable organizations that work to improve access to education through financial aid and other programs.
The firm reports that the program has helped more than 2,500 people over the years with scholarships, bursaries and job search strategy forums. This year, the proceeds will be divided among 10 organizations, including: Women in Capital Markets, the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation, The Financial Women’s Association, the Jackie Robinson Foundation, the Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth, Indspire, Lime Connect, and KIPP.
“It was a great day,” said Eric Tripp, president, BMO Capital Markets. “We are so proud of this program that has raised $15 million over the past 10 years. Equity Through Education fuels tangible action with observable results and is critical to our support of a diverse workforce.”
