Senior investors and cybersecurity are among the issues to be discussed at an event U.S. securities regulators are holding to examine compliance issues for broker-dealers.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) announced Wednesday that they will hold their national compliance outreach program on July 27 at the SEC’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.
The program aims to provide an open forum for regulators and the industry, including compliance, audit, and other senior personnel, “to discuss current compliance practices and promote an effective compliance structure for the protection of investors.”
Among other things, the event will discuss such issues as: senior investors and retirement accounts; the compliance examination priorities of both the SEC and FINRA; conflicts of interest and high risk brokers; and cybersecurity threats facing the brokerage industry.
“The compliance outreach program for broker-dealers helps to facilitate effective communication and transparency and furthers the mission to protect investors and maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets,” says Peter Driscoll, acting director of the SEC’s Office of Compliance Inspections and Examinations’ national examination program.
The event, which is free, will be webcast by the SEC.
