U.S. securities regulators are planning a roundtable meeting to discuss cybersecurity threats in the financial markets.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced today that it will host a meeting on March 26 to discuss cybersecurity, the issues and challenges it presents for financial firms and public companies, and how these issues are being addressed.

“The growing interest in cybersecurity across financial markets and other sectors has raised questions about how various market participants can effectively manage cybersecurity threats,” the SEC notes, adding that recent security breaches have also focused public attention on how companies disclose cybersecurity threats and incidents.

Last year, global regulators generally, and Canadian regulators in particular, issued warnings about the growing threat of cyberattacks against the financial industry.

The SEC’s roundtable will be held at the agency’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. Information on the agenda and participants will be published in the coming weeks, it notes.
