The Quebec Court of Appeal has approved a request from Quebec’s securities regulator to appeal the reduced fraud sentence of former Norbourg head Vincent Lacroix.
The hearing before the appeal court justices will take place on December18.
Written arguments from the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) are to be submitted by October 17 and lawyers for Lacroix, the founder and former CEO of Norbourg, must state their case in writing no later than November 14, the court said.
The AMF is objecting to a decision to reduce Lacroix’s sentence to 8 and a half years from 12 years less a day. On July 8, Quebec Superior Court Justice André Vincent ruled the sentence was too long.
