The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI) has issued a warning about a possible phishing operation.
The federal financial regulator warns that an Ottawa-based firm calling itself Midland Trust is operating a website at www.midtrust.com.
“Midland Trust is not a federally regulated financial institution,” OSFI says, and warns that Midland’s “website contains facilities to collect personal banking and other information. It is strongly recommended that members of the public not provide any personal information through this website.”
The regulator also notes that this firm is not to be confused with Midland Trust Limited, a fiduciary company and corporate agent based in the British Virgin Islands. And, it advises those with more information to contact the Canadian Anti Fraud Centre and RCMP.
