The Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions has posted a notice seeking candidates to replace Nick Le Pan as the federal prudential regulator.

Le Pan announced this past summer that he is stepping down as of October 13. He has served as Superintendent since 2001.

The Superintendent of Financial Institutions is appointed for a term of seven years, and is responsible for implementing OSFI’s mandate. “Preference will be given to individuals who have a professional background in economics, finance, law, accounting, public or business administration or any other relevant speciality,” it notes.

“The successful candidate will have a deep knowledge of the financial sector based, ideally, on working experience within the sector. This knowledge must include familiarity with the types of institutions and pension plans which operate within the sector, both in Canada and internationally, the types of products offered and lines of business carried on within the sector, the strategic challenges facing financial service organizations, emerging trends and risks and principles of risk management,” it adds.

Other qualifications include senior management experience, regulatory experience, some knowledge of auditing principles and practices, among other things.

Interested candidates should forward their curriculum vitae by October 2, to the acting assistant secretary to the cabinet (senior personnel and special projects), Privy Council Office.
