Bay Street veteran Wendy Berman is joining the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) as vice chair.
Berman is currently on sabbatical from Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, where she is a partner and chair of the firm’s securities litigation group. Her OSC appointment is for a one-year term.
Berman fills a vacancy at the OSC that was created when vice chair Grant Vingoe took over as acting chair and CEO of the OSC in April.
Vingoe replaced Maureen Jensen, who departed the commission before her term was due to expire in February 2021.
The OSC has also announced that Cathy Singer has been appointed to a two-year term as a part-time commissioner.
Currently a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP, Singer previously served as general counsel at the commission.
“I am pleased by the appointments of Wendy and Cathy to the commission and welcome the extensive experience and securities-related expertise they will bring,” Vingoe said in a statement.
“I know their perspectives will be invaluable as we continue to respond to business and market demands, while ensuring strong investor protections are in place,” he added.
