The New Brunswick Securities Commission announced that it has been granted membership in the Council of Securities Regulators of the Americas.
The NBSC says that its application was unanimously endorsed in April at the COSRA/Inter-American Regional Committee meeting in Montevideo, Uruguay. The NBSC is the fifth Canadian securities regulator to join the organization (along with Alberta, BC, Ontario and Quebec).
The commission said it believes that New Brunswick investors and capital markets are well-served by partnerships and strong links with active market participants and regulators of those markets. COSRA currently has 36 members from 27 countries.
“The organization provides a forum for mutual co-operation and communication on a global scale. Members of COSRA work together to protect investors; co-operate in market surveillance, securities law and regulation enforcement; and establish links among markets to enhance investor access to these markets throughout the Americas,” it says. “COSRA members also strive for the highest quality and most compatible regulatory structures to maintain market integrity and minimize the regulatory burden placed on the market.”
