A regulatory veteran has been named general counsel of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA).
Vincente Martinez, a former regulator with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has joined the group of state and provincial securities regulators to head up its legal department.
Martinez was most recently partner at law firm K&L Gates in the firm’s white collar and regulatory defence practice.
Prior to that, he spent 12 years at the SEC in various roles, including as chief of the enforcement division’s Office of Market Intelligence, which conducts market surveillance and trading investigations.
He also established the CFTC’s whistleblower office in 2011 and served as its first director.
“Vince brings a strong background in investor protection and regulatory coordination to NASAA and I am pleased to have someone with his skill and experience guiding an already strong NASAA legal team,” NASAA executive director Joseph Brady said in a statement.
“I am excited to join NASAA and contribute to the distinguished history of state and provincial regulators and their vital investor protection mission,” Martinez said.
