The umbrella group of global regulators, the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), says that its third annual World Investor Week (WIW) will focus on investor protection issues that arise in the digital world, including investing online, initial coin offerings (ICOs) and trading in digital assets.
The initiative, which takes place from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6, is a week-long investor education and protection campaign, and includes the third annual World Financial Planning Day on Oct. 2.
In Canada, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) will be hosting events and activities to recognize World Investor Week, and the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) will be launching a webinar to introduce financial advisors to its educational tools for their clients, along with other initiatives.
“I welcome this third edition of the World Investor Week which evidences IOSCO’s continuous efforts and commitment to investor education and protection, encouraging new initiatives among IOSCO members and preparing them for dealing with the challenges of increasingly interconnected and digitalized capital markets,” said Ashley Alder, chair of IOSCO’s board and CEO of the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission.
