The Alberta Securities Commission has appointed five new members of the commission effective April 1, including former Supreme Court of Canada justice Jack Major.

The new appointees are replacing four members whose terms are expiring. The departing members are James Allard, Jerry Bennis, Thomas Cooke and Mazhar Shaikh.

In addition to Major, who retired from the court in December, the new ASC members are Beverley Brennan, Allan Edgeworth, Neil Murphy and Karen Prentice.

Commission members oversee the business of the ASC and operate as a quasi-judicial tribunal hearing cases of securities violations.
