Work has begun on a detailed proposal for a common Canadian securities regulator. The panel, appointed by the Ontario Government, want to move forward with a “more substantive outline” for a regulator that would “serve the interests of all provinces and territories.”

The plan will carefully address strong local presence and sensitivity to regional issues. Despite that the panel was assembled by the Ontario Government, they are dedicated to working with other provinces to establish a common approach to securities regulation.

The panel will present a report of their final plan by the end of October 2005.
