The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission will convene the first meeting of its Energy Markets Advisory Committee on June 10 to examine key energy market issues.

The committee, which includes a wide-range of representatives of energy industry participants, will focus on the issue of transparency in the energy markets, and will include discussions on the role of index trading and energy trading on foreign boards of trade. Also, the CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight will present an update on the energy markets and recent commission initiatives.

“In these extraordinary times for the commodity markets, the commission is eager to learn from this knowledgeable group, comprised of a cross section of those who use and are affected by the markets, on the important issues of market transparency and index trading” said CFTC acting chairman Walter Lukken. “The insight the commission will gain from this new committee, and from the agency’s own recent initiatives in the energy markets, will better prepare the commission as it continues its critical oversight function of these growing and evolving markets.”
