B.C. investors have a new tool to help them work with their advisors to make informed investments with the expanded and updated InvestRight Guide to Investing: How to work with your investment advisor, released Monday by the B.C. Securities Commission.

The completely revised guide targets two types of B.C. investors — those who invest with banks or investment firms, and those interested in private company investing.

Interactive worksheets support each chapter, making it easy for investors to involve themselves with greater confidence in the investments they make.

“Our research shows that just under half of Canadians have a financial advisor and that those who do tend to take the advisor’s word rather than doing their own homework,” says BCSC Chair, Brenda Leong. “The purpose of the guide is to impress on investors the importance of really getting involved in their investing.”

Written with B.C. investors in mind, but useful for investors everywhere, the new guide aims to help both newer and more experienced investors approach their advisor as a partner rather than an all-knowing authority.

The guide is published in “e-book” format and can be downloaded for free from the BCSC’s investor education website.
