Quebec’s Autorité des marchés financiers (AFM) held a training seminar on emerging issues in insider trading and market manipulation as part of its effort to step up the fight against these sorts of activities.

The AMF said that experts from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission joined it to conduct the training seminar for about 80 employees of Canadian securities regulators.

At the event, the AMF explained that in March, the Insider Trading and Market Manipulation Investigation unit was created to foster the development of specialized expertise and investigation techniques. Jean-François Fortin joined the AMF to serve as manager of the unit.
