The Autorité des marchés financiers is extending its public consultation on consumer compensation issues by a month.

The AMF launched a consultation concerning compensation for consumers of financial products and services back in December, which was initially scheduled to end on February 7. Today, it said that “some interested parties would like more time to submit their comments” and given the importance of this consultation to the AMF, it has decided to extend the comment period to March 9.

The original request for comment sets out various questions that have been raised in this area, and highlights the issues related to the compensation of financial consumers in Québec. The AMF has also prepared a reference guide that discusses the protection mechanisms related to financial services in the province.
