A Drayton Valley, Alta. man is facing a series of six criminal charges in connection with an alleged investment fraud, the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) announced Monday.
Shaun Wayne Howell has been charged with three counts of fraud and three counts of theft over $5,000 in connection with an investment scheme that “fraudulently raised approximately $200,000 from six investors” in Red Deer, Alta. between Sept. 2013 and Feb. 2015, the ASC says in a news release.
The allegations have not been proven. Howell’s first court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 26, in Red Deer Provincial Court.
Howell was charged following an investigation by the Joint Serious Offences Team (JSOT), which is an enforcement partnership between the ASC, the RCMP Federal Policing’s Financial Integrity Program, and the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.
