Yvon Charest, president and CEO of Quebec City-based Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. (IA), has been named 2015 Financial Personality of the Year in Finance et Investissement‘s (FI) Top 25 ranking of Quebec’s financial services sector.

FI, Investment Executive‘s French language sister publication, bestowed the award on Vachon at an industry gala held on Tuesday evening in Montreal. Charest has previously won the award in 2004 and 2008.

Under Charest’s leadership, IA achieved excellent financial results in 2015 despite low interest rates. Shareholders’ net income was $378.1 million in the nine months ended Sept. 30, 2015 — a 22% increase over the corresponding period in 2014.

Moreover, individual insurance sales increased by 17% to $180.6 million and segregated fund sales rose by 20% to $1.2 billion during that period.

Finalists for the 2015 Financial Personality of the Year included Robert Dumas and Isabelle Hudon of Sun Life Financial Inc., Jean-Guy Desjardins of Fiera Capital Corp., Monique Gravel of CIBC Wood Gundy and Monique F. Leroux of Desjardins Group.
