Emerging markets have moved beyond the dependence on export-oriented and infrastructure-related businesses that drove the initial growth of their economies to greater reliance on domestically-oriented industries such as consumer goods, financials, technology and health care.
In this free webinar, Christine Tan, senior portfolio manager and chief investment officer at Excel Investment Counsel Inc. Tan will discuss how the declining cyclicality of the boom/bust cycle in emerging economies is creating more stability and a burgeoning choice of diversified investments. She will also identify some of the secular themes and highlight new emerging global players entering the world stage and challenging established North American and European brand leaders.
Tan joined Excel Investment Counsel Inc. in 2012 and became lead manager of Excel Emerging Markets Fund in 2013. She employs a disciplined bottom-up approach to investing, seeking growth at a reasonable price with a focus on downside risk. Prior to joining Excel Investment Counsel Inc., Tan was vice president and portfolio manager at a prominent wealth management firm in Toronto where she co-managed a top-quartile $1 billion Canadian equity portfolio. Tan has more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry and possesses a deep knowledge of emerging economies and investment opportunities, enhanced by numerous visits to emerging market countries. She also speaks several languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay.
