The Investor Education Fund is pleased to announce the sponsorship of two programs which address the needs of seniors and students.

The first sponsorship focuses on preventing elder abuse throughout Ontario. This coming year, Toronto’s Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE), in partnership with the Seniors Assistance Team of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), will conduct five training sessions throughout the province to raise awareness of elder abuse. Participants in the training will include police officers and community service providers who deal directly with seniors and are key to identifying and preventing elder abuse.

The full-day training sessions will include a presentation by the Ontario Securities Commission on “Investment Fraud Prevention”. The Investor Education Fund is providing $13,625 to help support this training.

On the other end of the spectrum, Toronto students will learn more about investing through a new contest being held by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). The contest is designed to complement a new Grade 12 course called “Financial Securities” and is based on the “Creating an Investment Portfolio” activity pulled from the Fund’s popular Taking Stock in Your Future teachers’ program. Students will be evaluated on their understanding and application of financial concepts and strategies, based on portfolios they must develop for fictional clients. The Investor Education Fund is providing $6,000 to support the contest.
