Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) President Don Johnston today selected Youth in Motion, an organization dedicated to preparing Canada’s youth for the job market, as beneficiary of the $10,000 gift associated with the “Donald J. Johnston Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Financial Planning in Canada.”

FPSC’s board of directors inaugurated the annual Donald J. Johnston Award and announced Johnston as its first honouree at FPSC’s 10th anniversary event in January.

Johnston’s leadership and dedication in forwarding the development and recognition of the profession of financial planning through Certified Financial Planner certification in Canada inspired the creation of the annual award. The award includes a monetary contribution by FPSC to the non-profit organization of the honouree’s choice.

Johnston presented the gift today to Youth in Motion co-founder, president and CEO, Akela Peoples at FPSC offices.

Commenting on why he chose Youth in Motion as the recipient of this year’s gift, Johnston says: “Professional financial planning is about helping people take control of their lives and prepare for their futures. Youth in Motion holds a similar vision in that they empower youth to make meaningful life and career choices that have potential for local and global impact. I’m delighted to help forward their inspiring work with this gift.”

Youth in Motion will use the funds to further develop its “Top 20 Under 20” program, which honours young Canadians who have demonstrated a significant level of achievement, innovation and leadership.

Youth in Motion is a national, not-for-profit organization focused on developing the employability and life skills of today’s youth to prepare them effectively for success in life and work. Its programs are designed to provide access to career information and increase awareness about opportunities for youth and those impacting the career decisions of youth.
