Financial Planners Standards Council (FPSC) is declaring October 5-12 as the inaugural Financial Planning Week as part of an ongoing campaign to make financial planning more a part of Canadians’ lives, the FPSC said Thursday.

“Financial Planning Week is every day at FPSC and for many involved in the profession pp but for too many Canadians there are not nearly enough days or lives lived with financial planning as a priority. This year more than ever, the impact of this void has hit Canadians hard and it must change,” says Cary List, president and CEO.

The goal of the week is to raise awareness and invite a call to action to all stakeholders to collaborate and enact meaningful change for the benefit of all Canadians. Similar themed weeks are being held concurrently in Quebec and the United States.

FPSC has been at the forefront of the financial planning profession since 1995. “We are in a unique position to highlight the need for and contribute to a heightened effort to enact change for all Canadians. Every stakeholder — individuals, industry, regulators, educators and others 00 needs to be part of the solution,” says List.

In its inaugural year, FPSC is spearheading several initiatives.

On October 5, FPSC will host a gathering in Toronto of key stakeholders for a half-day Financial Planning Vision 2020 symposium focused on a 10-year vision. Key industry, regulatory, public and other stakeholders will gather to discuss key issues integral to ensuring the financial planning needs of all Canadians are better served. A detailed agenda will soon be available..

The www.financialplanningweek.ca website will provide updates, information and resources leading up to and throughout the week. FPSC will continue to update this site throughout the year with financial planning information and news on next year’s events.

CFP professionals are invited to offer financial planning checkups in their local communities. Updates on the various events being offered will be posted on the FPW website.

As well, the national edition of the October 5 Globe and Mail will include a special FPW supplement.
