One thousand two hundred and twenty (1,220) individuals wrote the Financial Planners Standards Council’s Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Examination on Nov. 22, 2003 and 53.36% of all candidates (651) passed. Of those writing the exam for the first time, 62.53% passed.

“Congratulations to all the successful candidates who passed the rigorous CFP Examination. By successfully completing the examination, these candidates are one step closer to the internationally recognized mark of the professional financial planner — the CFP,” said Cary List, FPSC VP, standards and certification.

A list of the 651 successful CFP Examination candidates will be published in The Globe and Mail on Thursday, January 8.

The six-hour CFP Examination is administered in both official languages twice a year. The November examination was held in 59 centres across Canada. Topics covered reflect the knowledge, skills and professional competence required in the current practice of financial planning as established by CFP professionals and academics from across the country.

There are 27 programs directly accredited by FPSC that are delivered by 22 institutions across the country (including colleges and universities). Additional educational institutions have entered into academic partnerships bringing the number of institutions that offer courses of study leading to the CFP designation to over 70.

The next CFP Examination is scheduled for Saturday, June 5. Registration closes on May 5. Examination information is available at www.cfp-ca.org and the application form for the June exam will be available on the Web site at the end of January.
