(October 12 – 13:20 ET) – The
board of directors of the Canadian
Association of Insurance and
Financial Advisors has struck a
task force to deal with the
question of professional
designations for members.

CAIFA chairman Jim Rogers says
the committee has been asked to
report back to the board at the
beginning of January on a proposal
he made at CAIFA’s annual
conference in Vancouver last
week.

Rogers said he would like to
see all 18,000 or so CAIFA members
have their CLU or CFP designations,
or be working towards one of them,
by the beginning of next year.
That would convert CAIFA’s
status from a trade group to a
professional organization, Rogers
said.

But approximately 9,000 CAIFA
members don’t have any
designation. That’s the major
issue for the task force, says
Rogers. New members will not be
affected by the designation issue
until at least the end of March
2000.
