Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • In the same week that Wellington-Altus Financial Inc. created three new leadership roles (two of which are executive vice-president positions), the firm announced its addition of multiple advisor teams. Douglas Financial — run by senior investment advisor Chris Douglas, senior wealth advisor Alan Isaacson, senior investment advisor Sharon Pchajek and investment advisor Kaitlyn Douglas — joined the firm in Winnipeg, coming from Manulife Wealth (formerly Manulife Securities Inc. and where Douglas first started in 1982). Campbell Wealth Management — run by senior investment advisor and senior portfolio manager Matthew Campbell, who works alongside senior investment associate Jennifer Pretli — joined the firm in Montreal. They are coming from Richardson Wealth, where they both worked for more than a decade. Finally, Sunnidale Family Wealth — run by senior wealth advisor and senior portfolio manager Eric Dionne, wealth advisor and associate portfolio manager Graham Ferguson, plus wealth advisors Meghan Simpson and Blake Emmott — joined in Barrie, Ont., coming from BMO Nesbitt Burns.
  • Senior financial planner Alton Mendes has moved from Wellington-Altus to Raymond James Ltd.’s financial planning group. An announcement by Michelle Connolly, head of financial planning and insurance solutions, said Mendes will “start supporting [the firm’s] advisory teams, clients and their families in pursuing and achieving their financial goals.” He’s also worked at several banks throughout his 10-year career.
  • Allen Private Wealth Group, which includes portfolio manager and senior wealth advisor Sajjad Hussain, and head of operations and client experience Juliana Pang, alongside other staff, has partnered with Designed Wealth Management. The group is located in Toronto and has been operating for several decades.
  • Executive financial consultant Kevin Reid and senior consultant Mike Roberts, plus their team of five, joined IG Private Wealth Management from Manulife Wealth. Their group focuses on areas like investment and retirement planning, as well as business succession planning. Executive financial consultant Michele Hendriks (and her team of associate consultant Megan Hendriks and executive assistant Lindsay Martens) have also moved from Manulife to IG Wealth. They focus on business owners and entrepreneurs, pre-retirees and retirees, and women.
  • Derrick Keith Newhook, a longtime financial services executive, recently left PPI Management Inc. His nearly 30-year career, to date, was largely spent with PPI, with his most recent role being senior vice-president of sales. Prior to working with PPI, Newhook helmed AMC Brokerage Ltd. for 15 years. His announcement online said, “It’s time for a new chapter,” but no details were given on his next step.
  • Ray Gilmour was named interim CEO with Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) after the Alberta government fired the Crown corporation’s board and CEO. A release said AIMCo was overseeing more than $168.9 billion in assets under management as of June 30 and that the province recently shared “its vision of renewed focus” for the institutional investment manager.
